Our Story

A family-run, climate positive distillery in the heart of Kintyre

Generations in the making!

Our story began in 2016 when the distillery was founded by Niall and Emma Macalister Hall, alongside Niall’s brother Kenny. Carrying forward a legacy on an estate that has been in the family for five generations, we set out to diversify the land while creating something lasting for the generations to follow. From our home in a converted farm building on the estate, we run our small-batch distillery, café, gin school, and visitor experiences with a close-knit team dedicated to warm, authentic Scottish hospitality.

Rooted in Kintyre

Our distillery takes its name from Beinn an Tuirc—Gaelic for "The Hill of the Wild Boar"—which stands as the highest peak on the Kintyre peninsula, gently rising up behind us.

Torrisdale Castle Estate is tucked between lush woodlands and rolling hills on the east coast of Kintyre.  The estate boasts spectacular views across the Kilbrannan Sound toward the Isle of Arran and is situated down a winding single track road, 12 miles north of the whisky town of Campbeltown.

A Climate-Positive Ethos

We believe that producing world-class spirits shouldn't cost the Earth. From day one, sustainability hasn't just been a feature of our business—it has been the core driver behind everything we do.

Distilling to Leave a Legacy

Renewable Hydro Energy

We embrace wet weather here at Beinn an Tuirc! Our copper stills and some distillery facilities are powered by a 99kW hydro-electric scheme, harnessing local rainfall to keep emissions minimal.

Local Spring Water

We have our own supply of fresh, untreated water from a Victorian spring located just above the distillery. The water is gravity fed directly to the distillery where it is used in our production
processes.

Community Focused

We are proud to be a socially responsible business and support our local community where we can. We sponsor local events and charities and have developed an educational nature programme with local primary and nursery schools.

Supporting Biodiversity

We are fully committed to reducing our impact on the environment by taking care of the rich biodiversity of the surrounding estate. This includes part of the ancient Atlantic Rainforest which
hosts a rich variety of carbon-sequestering mosses and fungi.
